Your Voice Matters: Share Your Adoption Experience in Government Consultations

At Family Adoption Links, we believe in the power of your voice. Families and young people with lived experience of adoption have been invited to share their views in key government consultations that could shape the future of adoption support.
The Department for Education has launched Adoption support that works for all. This looks at ways to improve adoption and kinship support, including the future of the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund. The focus is on better mental health support, easier access to services, and a more consistent system.
Who it’s for: Adopted children and young people, adoptive families, kinship carers and anyone with an interest in adoption support
Closing date: 5th May 2026
There is also a young people’s version of this consultation, designed to make it easier for children and young people to share their views in a way that works for them:Young people’s consultation
The government is also consulting on changes to education support through SEND reform: putting children and young people first. This sets out proposals to improve help for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including earlier help and better services.
Who it’s for: Children, young people, parents and carers, schools and professionals
Closing date: 18 May 2026
Why this matters? Many adopted children use both adoption support services and SEND provision. By sharing your experiences, you can help shape better future services that meet children’s needs.
At Family Adoption Links, we know how vital the right support can be at every stage of the adoption journey. You can find out more about the support available to you here:
