Book a Chat at a Time That Suits You

If you are thinking about adoption but not sure where to start?

A Book a Chat session with the Family Adoption Links team in Lincolnshire or Leicestershire is a relaxed opportunity to get answers to your questions, with no pressure to progress until you are ready.

These informal conversations are designed to help you explore whether adoption could be right for you and give you clear guidance about the next steps.

Janyce Crosby, Adoption and Fostering Recruitment Advisor from Leicestershire, shares her tips for getting the most from your conversation.

1. Bring Your Questions, Big or Small

From “What is involved in the application process?” to “Could adoption be right for me?”, you can ask anything.

These chats are designed to give you clear, honest guidance at a pace that feels right for you.

2. Think About Your Motivation

We are always interested to understand what has brought you to consider adoption, and we will explore this with you.

You don’t need the “perfect” reason to adopt, just your personal one. Thinking about why adoption is on your mind can help guide the conversation.

3. Jot Down Your Childcare Experience

You may have more experience than you realise.

Caring for relatives, supporting friends with their children, working with young people, or raising your own children it all counts.

Our team can help you understand how your experience might fit into the adoption assessment journey.

4. Be Open About Your Lifestyle and Support Network

Talking about your day-to-day life helps us understand your strengths and the support you already have around you.

Adoption support continues long after a child joins your family, so it’s helpful to start thinking about the people and networks who are part of your life.

5. Ask About Training and Resources

During your adoption journey, you’ll be offered guidance, resources and training to help you prepare.

You can also explore recommended reading, videos and information about topics such as:

  • Trauma and early experiences
  • Attachment
  • Therapeutic parenting

These can help you build confidence as you move forward.

“We came away feeling reassured, informed and hopeful. It was the first time we thought, ‘Yes… we can really do this.’ Janyce was so helpful.” Couple at the start of their journey

Why Booking a Chat Helps

A Book a Chat session can give you:

  • Clarity about what adoption involves
  • Reassurance from experienced professionals
  • Personalised guidance based on your situation
  • Peace of mind without committing to anything
  • A sense of when might be the right time to start your adoption journey

It’s simply a friendly conversation at a time that suits you between 9am and 5pm.
