Top tips for going on holiday with adopted children
Say hello to Oliver, a calm and content little boy with a heart-melting smile and the softest light brown hair. His sparkling blue eyes light up when he sees a familiar face, and his giggle is nothing short of contagious. Oliver is a joyful baby who thrives in the company of others and brings smiles wherever he goes.
Oliver is full of curiosity and charm. He loves being close to his foster carer, snuggling in for cuddles and watching the world around him. He finds comfort in being held and carried, happily babbling away as he takes in the hustle and bustle of his busy foster home. He has formed a strong, secure bond with his carer and seeks her out with his gaze whenever he hears her voice—making eye contact and enjoying the attention.
Whether he’s at a local baby group, out for a stroll in his pushchair, or listening to nursery rhymes at church, Oliver loves to be part of the action. He’s inquisitive and alert, meeting all of his developmental milestones and enjoying the freedom to explore now that he’s started to crawl. He especially enjoys tummy time, playing on his activity mat, and reaching for soft toys, rattles, and anything scrunchy or textured.
This placid little boy thrives on a predictable routine. After a solid night’s sleep (with the occasional feed), Oliver starts his day bright and early around 5am. He enjoys attending baby groups where he watches other children play and soaks in attention from adults. He also adores being outside, often napping in his pushchair or enjoying the soothing motion of a car ride.
At mealtimes, Oliver is discovering a world of new tastes and textures. He has a good appetite and is doing well with both puréed and finger foods, showing interest in the food around him. Having overcome early reflux, he’s now feeding well and growing steadily.
Sensory play is a big hit for Oliver—he especially loves books with flaps, toys that crinkle and squeak, and anything squishy or cuddly. He’s particularly fond of giving his teddy bears big hugs and listening to stories and music, especially nursery rhymes.
While Oliver is a generally happy and easy-going baby, he’s not a fan of bath time just yet, and he can sometimes be startled by loud noises or bright lights—but he’s easily soothed and comforted. He relaxes best when having a cuddle and often falls asleep during his evening feed.
Oliver is still very young and fully reliant on his caregivers to meet his needs. As he continues to grow, he will need gentle encouragement to build his independence and confidence. With a nurturing, attentive family, Oliver is sure to blossom.
