Getting back to normal

This year our activities were able to return and what a laugh we all had!

We were delighted that the team were able to restart our water activities and the children braved the beautiful English summer weather! The adventurous youngsters learnt to canoe, paddleboard, perform water rescues and play lots of games. The biggest challenge though was getting their wetsuits on and off!

We also managed to continue with our woodland adventures which included pizza making, fire lighting, pond dipping and adventure walks! Music and drama workshops made a dramatic entrance once again with the children designing their own scenes, making music, writing their own lines and acting them out. It was brilliant to see the creative side to our children!

We’re already excitedly planning our events for next year! Watch this space.

Outdoor challenges for Leicestershire’s adopted children

In August we organised an activity session for 20 children aged 11-16 at Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre.

For many of the children, it was their first time meeting each other and their first time taking part in new and exciting activities like paddle-boarding and crate stacking (on water – no mean feat).

The children were incredible showing support and kindness to each other and embracing being out of their comfort zone and trying some really challenging new pursuits.

Thanks to everyone who took part, here is some of their feedback..

He thoroughly enjoyed himself and was pleased with what he managed to achieve, it was nice to see him being positive towards himself and happy.

I loved it! I especially enjoyed the paddle boarding, it was good fun. I liked meeting other children, I made a friend and I helped her to get back on her board when she got stuck. Everyone was friendly which made me feel better, the instructors were good and helped me to feel I could do it.

Sadly, the sessions for the younger age group had to be cancelled due to staffing. We hope to be able to re-arrange this as soon as possible and run similar events in the future.
