Black History Month
Aaliyah and Dion are a fantastic sibling pair who are full of fun and eager to get you involved in their play.
Aaliyah is a beautiful, happy, confident little girl with a smile that lights her face up. Aaliyah’s foster carer says she so sweet to be with and she loves taking care of her. She’s super affectionate girl and loves hugs with her foster carer. She’s also kind and nurturing towards younger children and loves to play with her little brother Dion. She shares happily and has a number of friends at school.
Aaliyah is thriving in her busy household, enjoying being around the wider members of the foster family and being involved in what’s happening. She revels in adult company, regaling her foster carer with tales of her day. She’s brilliantly brave and doesn’t show any fear when climbing to the top of the slides at the park or zooming along fast on the zip line! Aaliyah is also happy having quieter time playing in her bedroom engaging in imaginative play. She’s a creative little girl who enjoys arts and crafts such as making things or colouring in. She has a fantastic imagination and often creates little worlds with all the objects around her and enjoys playing schools with her dolls, where they each get one of her many books to read. She also loves unicorns, rainbows and anything sparkly.
Aaliyah is a bright little girl who is switched on to what is happening around her and is able to let her carers know what she would like. She likes to be independent at times and enjoys being able to do things for herself but would benefit from adopters who can help and encourage her to also be a little girl.
Her little brother Dion takes after her with his own cherubic grin, he’s a happy, giggly boy who has an infectious laugh. He’s also a brilliantly energetic and determined little boy who is always on the go. Dion’s foster carers love caring for Dion and enthuse about the fun and joy he brings to their life. They say he gives the best cuddles and is a loving, lovely boy. Dion is wonderfully aware of the world around him and likes nothing better than exploring and getting into everything. He’s very strong and likes to climb. His gross motor skills are well developed and he is very determined (all the qualities you need for a good climber!) He enjoys time playing with his toy cars and balls though his favourite is to be outdoors running around or playing in water. Dion loves music and singing and is starting to dance along to his favourite songs. He also likes toys with buttons and lights. Dion loves the Baby Shark song in all its forms and he hums along to ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ and ‘Row your Boat’. Dion enjoys toys that make a noise and loves being read to. He likes having a job to do and enjoys feeding the family dog each day.
When Dion is tired he rubs his ear and he likes to pull on his male foster carer’s beard to rub to his ear when he wants some comfort. Dion enjoys a cuddle when he is tired, if he hasn’t seen you for a while or if he thinks you are going to leave the room. He has a soft baby doll called Dion Dion who he likes to cuddle.
Dion’s foster carer recalls him seeming tiny at 3 days old when he came home to them and he was so quiet and didn’t make a noise. The quiet phase didn’t last long though and as he started finding his voice he’s started to enjoy making noises although he’s currently a little frustrated because he can’t talk yet and so find it tricky to communicate what he wants.
Dion likes being tickled and playing ‘Peek a Boo’ and ‘Hide and Seek’ and if you sing songs in funny ways to him, he will laugh along when others around him are laughing. Dion loves older children and thrives on the attention of the three children in the foster family aged 7, 9 and 11 who all love playing with him. He also enjoys time playing with his sister Aaliyah.
We’re looking for either a couple or a single adopter of black ethnicity with a strong support network to adopt these amazing children. As they’re also happy in busy households, we would consider adopters who already have children as long as the youngest child is at least 4. The children are wonderfully active and as they are coming to live together for the first time they will need lots of time and attention to help them with this big change. If you’d like to find out more, please send an email to adoption@leicester.gov.uk
