Pre-adoption

Pre-Adoption

Support

"Supported and happy" is how one of our adopters described how she felt going through her assessment and training prior to being approved as an adopter and this is exactly how we want you to feel.

During the 6 month process from initial enquiry, through all of the assessments, training and homework, your Adoption Social Worker will be there explaining, guiding and supporting you in your application.

This is a necessarily rigorous process so that you can be confident of your ability to become an adoptive parent.

This is what you can expect:

  • Your own personal Social Worker that you can call on at any time for advice and support
  • A minimum of five full days of training covering subjects as diverse as Preparing to Adopt, Therapeutic Parenting, The Importance of Play, Parenting Siblings and Talking about Adoption
  • A planned schedule of meetings both virtual and physical so that everyone understands the timescales that we are working to
  • A range of exercises, a reading list and homework to broaden your understanding of adoption
